Jerimy Rivera and Taylor Graham, co-founders of Tethered Residents, are a boundary-pushing duo of dancers, choreographers, and educators whose collaborative work bridges technical rigor with emotional depth. Based in New York City, their practice moves fluidly between performance, pedagogy, and community-building.

“So intimate, powerful, and transcendent”

At Tethered Residents, we explore the intricate dance of connection and belonging, investigating the relationships that bind us to one another and the spaces we inhabit. Through movement, we delve into the delicate interplay between freedom and constraint, revealing the tension and beauty within shared humanity. Our mission is to create performances that challenge audiences to reflect on their own connections while embracing the complexities and contradictions that arise. Rooted in storytelling, our work draws from personal histories and community dynamics to illuminate the threads that connect us all—fostering empathy, reflection, and transformation.

Tethered Residents received the MAP Fund Grant to support their evening-length work Images, set to premiere in 2026. Their recent engagements also include a commission with Boston Dance Theater and a growing roster of workshops presented across the country.

Artist Statement

Our work is a meditation on the tension between liberation and constraint, individuality and community, where we investigate the moments of rupture and reconciliation that define our shared humanity…
